Do you have a personal brand?
How do you represent yourself online?
Making money💰 online requires you to have a brand.
Your brand lets people know what you are all about.
Learning how to brand yourself online will only enhance your business that much more by attracting the right people to you who want to buy what you already have.
Before we jump into my 5 tips to growing your personal brand online, let’s get the definition first.
What Does Personal Branding Mean?
According to Wikipedia.com,
Personal branding is the application of one’s name being associated to various products. It is the practice of people marketing themselves as a brand. It is an ongoing process of establishing an image or impression in the mind of others about an individual, group, or organization.
In essence, this definition is saying that you need to start seeing yourself as your brand.
YOU are the face of whatever product or service you decide to promote or sell.
This is why personal branding is important.
Below👇🏾is an illustration that explains my point a little bit further. 😉
As you can see, you are always be researched by someone somewhere.
If you are a health and fitness💪🏾 coach, people are going to Google you to check out the reviews you have and if you are someone they would want to work with to reach their fitness goals.
If you want your audience to one day buy from you, they need to Know, Like and Trust you first.
So if you have a personal brand that helps people get to know who you are, that trust factor will begin to grow.
Now, growing a personal brand takes time🕰 so try not to rush the process.
Define Your Personal Brand
Defining your brand can help you narrow down your target audience.
You need to know exactly who you are trying to market your products to.
- What problems are plaguing your target audience right now?
- What are their hopes, dreams, goals?
- How can your product achieve these longings?
Build your personal brand around being the solution to your audience’s problems.
In a way, become that ‘answered prayer’🙏🏾 they have been looking for!
Some of the questions you should be asking yourself to help you define your personal brand further are:
- What makes you stand out from others in your niche?
- What is your vision for your personal brand?
- How will your brand get the attention of your audience?
- What goal are you trying to achieve with your brand?
- Who are you trying to reach through your brand?
- What problem will you be able to solve through your personal brand?
- How can you help them?
- What makes you trustworthy compared to the next person in your niche?
- How will you prove you are different than the next person?
These questions can help get you to think about how your brand is going to make a statement online.

How To Improve Your Personal Brand
There are many different ways for you to enhance and grow your personal brand online.
To start you need to be on social media in some way shape or form.
It does not have to be every social media platform on the planet, but it has to be at least one.
When I first started online, I started out on Facebook.
I would create Facebook Lives, make mini blog posts answering different questions, and I would share my life with my audience.
They got to see me when I was not working on my business.
From traveling✈️ to doing crazy stuff (like skydiving), I was able to share these things with my audience and they got to know me even further.
In most of the Facebook Lives I did, I would teach people something that related to my niche.
Every now and then, I would share a little bit about the product I was promoting, but I was mostly educating them.
For example, I would teach people how to grow their presence online through the different content that they create.
The content you post online can bring so much value to your target audience.
This, in turn, will grow your position online.
Some content you could create includes free ebooks/reports to give out, social media posts, blog posts, YouTube videos, tips of the day, pretty much anything that is giving value to your audience.
Let’s get into the 5 tips to help you grow your personal brand online.
Tip #1. See Yourself As Your Brand
To start off, you need to begin seeing yourself as the face of your product.
A product is just a product until someone puts their name and face to it.
Many people could find the same exact product or something similar that you are promoting and go buy it off of Amazon.
Why you ask?
Because people Know, Like and Trust Amazon.
What would make you stand out so that someone would buy from you instead of going to buy it off of Amazon?
It all boils down to the fact that they KNOW who you are.
They TRUST what comes out of your mouth and ultimately they just LIKE you better.
I made a quick Facebook Live where I go into more details about this first tip that you can check out below. 👇🏾
Tip #2. Start Building Relationships 🤝
Your brand is so much more than a logo.
You can design the fanciest, prettiest, coolest, logo on the planet, but if the person behind the logo is not trustworthy, then no one is going to check them out.
Again, my question to you is, why would someone buy from you instead of Suzzy down the street?
What makes you more special?
It all comes down to RELATIONSHIP building!
When you build a strong relationship with someone, you have them hooked for LIFE!
They trust anything and everything that comes out of your mouth ESPECIALLY if you have facts and your personal experience to back it up.
I always tell people to start having conversations with other people online.
Start to build that network around them.
Try not to start off the conversation with, “Hey check out this amazing product that is going to help you shed those extra pounds in the next 14 days”.
NO ONE CARES!
On top of that, how do you even know if that person is looking for a way to lose weight?
Maybe they are happy just the way they are.
My geometry teacher back in high school always told me to never ASSUME anything because it makes a (fill in the blank) out of ‘U’ and ‘ME’.
I hope you got where I was going with this…
Anyways, when you start a conversation off with business, that is a HUGE turnoff.
People just want to have conversations with other people, aka NETWORK.
Get to know the person you are talking to first and find out what their needs are.
By knowing their needs, you are then better able to find a solution for them.
Look at each conversation you have with someone as making a new ‘Best Friend’.
You want to find out what they are struggling with and present your product or service as a solution to their problem.
You won’t know what they are struggling with if you just start off the Facebook message with business.
One last thing, if you are an affiliate marketer, do not and I repeat DO NOT send your link as the first message to someone.
Your potential customer, new audience member, etc will AUTOMATICALLY be turned off.
They may even block you since YOU WILL be seen as a spammer.
I know SO MANY people who spam their link around social media and get band for days, months, and even years from that platform.
It’s just not worth it.
Check out the Facebook Live I did that goes into more details about this concept below.👇🏾
Tip #3. Give Out Value
To build off of the last tip, giving out value to your audience is one of the best ways to get them to Know, Like and Trust you quickly.
Now, you may be thinking, “how do I give out value to them?”
As previously mentioned there are a TON of different ways to do this.
For starters, you can give out value on social media through your posts.
It could be a tip of the day or a quote with an image.
You could also make a quick video and add it to your Facebook story.
The possibilities are endless so definitely try to think outside the box! 📦
Another idea is if you have an ebook or created a short report on a specific topic in your niche, give that away for free.
Some other ways to give out value to your audience is through hosting free webinars where you are teaching people something related to your niche, having a free coaching session, etc.
Again, the goal of giving value out to your target audience is to position yourself as a leader on that topic.
Here is a quick Facebook Live I did that talks about making sure you are giving VALUE to your target audience below. 👇🏾
Tip #4. Consistency
When you start to create valuable content for your audience, you NEED to be consistent.
Try to post more than 1 time a week, unless you have a blog or a YouTube channel then 1 time a week works.
Posting on social media consistently shows your audience that you are active online.
You are present to answer any questions they may have and to just continue to provide valuable information they can digest each day.
Once people start to get hooked on you, (Know, Like and Trust) they are going to want to know what you are doing with your life, your business, and to learn more about your product or service.
Also, by being active online you are able to follow up with people and continue to nurture that relationship with them.
It is hard to build rapport with someone if you are not consistent with your posting or following up with them.
This does not mean you have to post 5-10 times a day. 2-3 times is good and when you get a lead, it is wise to follow-up with them within the first 24 to 48 hours.
Tip #5. Document Instead of Create
Document your successes and document your failures.
No one is perfect and people need to see that you are human just like them.
By being open and honest with people on your mistakes, your successes, and your failures, really shows them that you are just like them.
Sharing these things (no matter how embarrassing or nerve-racking it is to share) helps your audience to connect with you better.
Mistakes are a commonality that ALL humans share.
It is apart of life and it is DEFINITELY apart of growing a business.
You learn so much from mistakes and by you sharing what you learned with others you are, in a way, giving value to them.
Imagine sharing some of the mistakes you made with your audience and by you sharing, you possibly save them from making a costly mistake.
You now created a loyal follower, a new ‘ride or die’ (okay maybe not that…) all because you decided to be open and vulnerable with them.
Just be real with people.
It is not about ‘fake it til you make it.’
People can sense that a mile away even if it is online.
By the way, vulnerability is another great way to build trust.
Once again, here is my very first Facebook Live I did.
It is all about ‘Why It’s Okay To Make Mistakes’ and you can check it out below. 👇🏾
To Wrap Things Up…
Your personal branding is EXTREMELY important when it comes to promoting any product online.
Start seeing yourself as the spokesperson or the face of your product or service.
Your brand is more than a logo.
It is all about relationship building and the best way to build a relationship with someone is by having genuine conversations with them.
You build your personal brand by presenting value to your audience too.
The best ways to give value to your audience is by giving them something that can help them solve a problem or an issue they are facing.
This will ultimately position you as a leader in their eyes.
Present yourself and your product as the solution to their problems and that is how you establish a STRONG personal brand.
